They are blood- sucking parasites sticking like warts on the skin, below the hair coat. They not only cause anemia, but also transmit a host of diseases to the animal and the owner (zoonotic diseases).<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></SPAN></P><P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><SPAN lang=EN-US style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; mso-ansi-language: EN-US"><o:p> </o:p></SPAN></P><P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-JUSTIFY: inter-ideograph; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><SPAN lang=EN-US style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; mso-ansi-language: EN-US">Usually, the pet- owners are often seen plucking out ticks by hand, by simply pulling them. This blood is rich in parasites that cause number of diseases dangerous to the dog itself.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></SPAN></P><P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-JUSTIFY: inter-ideograph; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><SPAN lang=EN-US style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; mso-ansi-language: EN-US"><o:p> </o:p></SPAN></P><P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-JUSTIFY: inter-ideograph; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><SPAN lang=EN-US style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; mso-ansi-language: EN-US">The best way to remove the ticks is by using various acaricides e.g. dip/ bath (Cypermethrin, Amitraz etc.), powder formulations (Carbaryl), neck belts (Amitraz), spot-ons, shampoo (Cypermethrin), injection (Ivermectin) etc. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P><P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-JUSTIFY: inter-ideograph; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><SPAN lang=EN-US style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; mso-ansi-language: EN-US">If the ticks really need to be removed physically, it should be done with a pair of forceps, by pressing the tick's proglottid down over the skin and pulling it out (and not the tick itself from the body).
